George Layne: A picture is worth a thousand words...

George doesn’t ‘see’ the world in a particular way, he simply observes and if something catches his eye he attempts to capture it using his camera. His subjects are exclusively people in their own environment, typically portraits; less often, candid shots. If he was to define himself it would be a documentary photographer, influenced heavily by the likes of Steve McCurry, Paolo Pellegrin and Warren Richardson

His photography is personal. Behind each photograph is an interaction with the subject, beginning with a polite introduction before asking to take their portrait. People tend to become very self-conscious when you point a camera at them, allowing parts of their personality shine through. He embraces this, using minimal direction to his advantage. The end result is a portrait of someone as themselves, influenced as little as possible by the photographer. He uses very little equipment and relies on the ambient light, making the portraits as natural as possible.
